If you follow my Instagram, then you know already that rehearsals have begun for my new Christmas play!
We had our first read-through of the script early last week and our first official rehearsal on Wednesday. To say I’m excited would be an understatement. 😄 I simply can’t describe how fantastic it is to hear dialogue you wrote come to life in people’s voices and watch them get excited about a story and characters you’ve loved for a long time. It’s pure joy!
Now that the secret’s out and rehearsals are underway, I can gradually start sharing a little information here on the blog. First of all, I’m revealing the title! (As you probably guessed from the name of this blogpost…) This year’s Christmas play is called As Ever, Sam.
Now, you’ll have to make what you will of that title for the present. Eventually I’ll be able to tell you more about the character Sam and some of the meaning behind this title, but for now, I’ll leave it to your speculation. 😁
What I can talk more about is this drama’s setting: the story takes place in 1944, near the end of World War 2. Some scenes follow soldiers in the European theater, others feature young women on the home front. This era was so fun to research and write about, and all the incredible real-life stories I learned about in the process left me astounded at the bravery and resourcefulness of American soldiers and citizens during the war.
Anyway, I’ve compiled a Pinterest board of images related to the drama which will give you a lot of clues about more details of the play’s context: you can explore the As Ever, Sam Pinterest board here.

Meanwhile, here are a few images I think are especially evocative of the drama’s setting and storyline:

And for now, I’ll leave it at that. Pictures are worth a thousand words, right? In the upcoming weeks, I’ll be posting more details about the drama’s characters and themes, but my Pinterest board already gives you a lot of hints!
Lastly, let me quickly announce the performance dates for the drama: we’ll be performing and live-streaming As Ever, Sam in just two months, on December 13, 15, and 16. More details about the livestream, performance times, etc. will come soon. 😊 Stay tuned for updates!
