Team Hero

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. (Hebrews 12:11)

Two young novelists are in for a surprise when their fictional heroes come to life…and go on strike. William, the hero of a medieval adventure novel, and Betty, leading lady of a 1940s mystery, team up against their authors, demanding an explanation for all the hardships they undergo in their stories. Comically satirical and surprisingly deep, this one-act play was inspired by words of N. D. Wilson and George MacDonald, and it offers one possible answer to one of life’s hardest questions: why do we have to suffer so much?

With three short scenes and a cast of 5 characters (2 male, 1 female, 2 gender-neutral), Team Hero runs about 10 minutes in performance and meets One-Act Play guidelines for both Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) conventions and Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS) fine arts competitions.
