As Ever, Sam

In As Ever, Sam, the world has been at war for nearly five years. Sam Fleming, drafted in the summer of 1943, has been in basic training for ten months with his new friends Gus and Kenny, and it’s now only a matter of time until their division is deployed. Meanwhile, Sam’s sister Alice keeps in touch with him by mail as she finishes her English degree at Hudson Christian College in their hometown. Just days before graduation, however, she receives an extraordinary invitation to join the war effort in a way that may change her life forever. Neither Sam nor Alice wants to leave home, but if that’s what it takes, they’ll make any sacrifice to protect the place and people they love.

As Ever, Sam has a cast of 10 performers (5F, 4M, 1 neutral) and runs about 115 minutes in performance. Since the story culminates in the Battle of the Bulge on December 23rd and the characters make a few references to Christmas, the play can be performed as a Christmas drama. But since the play’s themes and storyline have no specific connection to Christmas, it can appropriately be performed at any time of the year.
